The Ethical Music Therapist 2024 - 3 Ethics CMTE Credits
Ethics is arguably the most important aspect of clinical practice for music therapists because it permeates every aspect of the work. The workshop will be divided into three parts. The presenter will first define what it means to be an “Ethical Music Therapist” by: describing the role of ethics in professional practice; identifying tools that guide ethical decision making; and discussing how the intersection of laws, regulations, and ethics may result in ethical dilemmas. Secondly, using guided instruction and experiential methods, participants will be introduced to an abbreviated model for ethical decision making, a problem solving approach used to generate solutions to ethical situations. Finally, participants will work in smaller groups and directed to address ethical situations in the areas of: clinical practice; working with students and interns; use of social media; and professional relationships. Groups will then have an opportunity to share their ethical decision making process with the larger group.
Presented by Eric G. Waldon, Ph.D., MT-BC
